Top neuroscientists from around the world in attendance
Top neuroscientists from Canada and around the world are meeting next week in Vancouver. The Sixth Annual Canadian Neuroscience Meeting will showcase the latest in research findings about the brain, the nervous system and reveal clues to understanding the disorders that affect them.
"It is estimated that 1 in 3 Canadians will be affected by some form of disorder of the brain or nervous system in his or her lifetime, so neuroscience research is extremely important", says Yves De Koninck, president of the Canadian Association for Neuroscience. "The Canadian Neuroscience community is amongst the most active and productive in the world." And the recent announcement of the launch of the Canada Brain Research Fund makes these "exciting times for neuroscience research" adds De Koninck.
This year's public lecture, "Boosting Brain Power" by University of British Columbia professors Max Cynader and Howard Feldman, will explain how our brains change as we age, suggest ways to improve brain function and present the latest treatment opportunities for Alzheimer's disease. This free event takes place Sunday May 20th at 3PM at the Life Sciences Centre of the University of British Columbia. Please visit UBC's Brain Research Center Event page for full details.
Current research about how genes and the environment shape the adolescent brain, Huntington's and Alzheimer's disease, autism genetics, schizophrenia, stress and the brain, ethics and consciousness are among the topics that will be discussed at the meeting.
