RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will work with the Director of Education Innovation to enable, encourage, promote and reward excellent teaching and learning through leading, facilitating and supporting education initiatives in partnership with lecturers, faculties and support services. The incumbent will also manage a number of core units whose operational responsibility is to achieve the University?s objective of excellence in teaching and learning. This will entail:
? Providing strategic leadership for curriculum, teaching, learning and assessment innovation for the University within a blended learning approach that would include:
o Improving teaching and thus learning and student success;
o E- and M-learning development as well as other technology-enhanced innovations;
o Integrating a variety of media to enhance teaching and learning;
? Leading and supporting a team of highly qualified and experienced group heads within Education Innovation, each responsible for strategic and operational leadership in their own fields:
o E- and M-learning development in terms of capacity development;
o Strategic leadership of staff development to build capacity for the implementation of a blended-learning approach;
o The development of media to support teaching and learning;
? Collaborating to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate curriculum, teaching assessment and learning platforms, systems and policies for the University;
? Liaising with key higher education role players within the University and externally, both nationally and internationally;
? Conducting research in order to stay abreast of international trends and knowledge trends in education innovation, E- and M-learning and the integration of media to support teaching and learning.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
? A relevant Doctorate in Education Technology or E?Learning:
o Under exceptional circumstances, where considerable experience at strategic management level in these fields is demonstrable, a Master?s degree in Education Technology or E-Learning might be considered acceptable;
? 10 years? higher education experience that included initiatives for curriculum, teaching, assessment, multimedia and E-learning development;
? At least five years? management experience within a higher education environment that included human resource and financial management;
? Proven experience in the development and application of blended learning;
? Management experience in E-education systems;
? Experience in creating strategic policies relating to E-learning and media development, integration and governance;
? Experience in academic staff development.
The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent?s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
