J. Bryan Lowder: Well my goodness, Jillian, that was an unexpected conclusion. It seems we will have four queens in the final showdown next week; and that shock came just after what I believe was the saddest lip-synch of all time. How did you feel about everything that happened on the mainstage?
JillianSteinhauer: Well, a LOT of things happened on the mainstage, and I'm still processing it all. But that lip-synch was one of the strangest, saddest things I've ever seen. Do you think it was a secret ploy on their part to be able to both stay, or do you think it was real (or both)?
Lowder: That's an excellent question! I never know how much agency we can attribute to people on reality shows (surely the producers had at least anticipated something like this), but, if it was a ploy, it was a brilliant one. Especially given the song choice?from the almost irresistibly danceable Robyn?it was almost uncanny to see two queens crying and hugging. I wonder though, in spite of everything, did you think someone won that contest? I actually thought Jujubee carried it...
Steinhauer: Yes, no question. Raven barely moved! In some ways she seemed to be more in shock or upset about the whole thing?although then Jujubee had that sort of episode after the fact. Maybe Jujubee is the true queen because she can externalize her pain better and transform it into art. But what did you think about their back story? As a happily pale person, I wasn't entirely sold on the need for tan-ness for all.
Lowder: Nor was I. I have to say, both teams' stories were a beat, but Rujubee's took the prize for convolution. Let's have a little astronomy lesson: First, Solaris is apparently an "undiscovered" planet just outside of the...sun? So somehow there's a planet we haven't seen blocking the light from our own star? And then, said planet experiences an eclipse and is therefore "shot" to earth. Did that end in catastrophe? Or did the planet just land at La Guardia? This queen wants to know.
Steinhauer: Let's please not ever forget the amazing syntax of the "just outside the sun." This copy editor wants to be brought in to teach a short lesson for the queens.
Lowder: Yes, there's something almost poetic about that?maybe their story was actually an assemblage of haikus. But we digress. Let's discuss for a moment the quality of the costumes in general. You know a bit about comics/graphic art, no? Which team's look did you find most "authentic"? Or just appealing for that matter?
Steinhauer: You know, it's tough to say, because there's not really anything like "authentic" in comics at this point. There's probably a more classic, Marvel-esque look, but that's generally simpler and more streamlined than any of their costumes were, except for maybe Jujubee's, which probably could have passed for something out of manga (as one judge pointed out). But I liked team Shad's costumes best; they were both intricate and striking. Raven looked a bit too much like a cross between Lady Gaga and Michael Jackson.
Lowder: Ha, yes I felt Rave was a bit stagey myself. But I also found Jujubee's look to be more Star Trek/Fifth Element than superhero. But I think we can agree that all the looks were pretty impressive. Now, if I can be a touch serious for just a moment, I want to bring up the, well, crassness of much of this episode. As a biological man, I was cringing a fair amount at all the lady-part jokes, which, for my comfort, went on a bit long. As a real life lady, how did you feel? All in good fun, or somwhere over the line? (Drag has, of course, been accused of varying levels of misogyny at times.)
Steinhauer: I went into this show feeling like it would take a lot for them to say anything that would or could offend me. And it's sort of wonderful, if you think about it, all those jokes about lady parts, because none of them has any! I don't know; it was just so over the top (I mean really, a vajayjay tightener?). I think to be offended by something you have to take it seriously, which I did not do with any of these stories/ideas/creations.
Lowder: I think that is probably the best attitude. In general, I allow comedy a certain license in these areas, but I just wanted to "check my privilege" real quick. Okay. Last question. Do you, after seeing Jujubee's fantastically craven product placement bomb, plan on shopping at ForumDecor.com for all your Silver and Gold Bar needs?

Even as the Ministry of External Affairs on Friday summoned Irish Ambassador Feilim McLaughlin over an Indian woman dying of blood poisoning in an Irish hospital after being denied abortion, global uproar and massive protests grew by the minute.
Savita Halappanavar, a dentist by profession, was denied termination of her pregnancy as per Ireland?s anti-abortion law, in spite of the doctors at the University Hospital Galway in the west of Ireland being well aware of her poor physical health. She died of blood poisoning on October 28, though the matter came to public attention much later. Her husband went public with the situation this week after taking his wife?s body back home to India for cremation.
According to reports, despite the increasing pain, doctors refused to terminate the pregnancy for three days because the foetus had a heartbeat. She died in the hospital from blood poisoning three days after the foetus died and was surgically removed. During the period between the child and the mother?s death, Savita was kept in high dependency unit and then later moved to the intensive care unit, where she died of septicaemia on October 28.
While her family blamed the country?s ?archaic abortion laws? for her death, massive protests broke out across Ireland, India as well as parts of the UK.
Protests began in Dublin on Wednesday. Thousands rallied outside Ireland?s Parliament, demanding that the stringent abortion rules be eased in view of the death of Savita?s death.
At least 2,000 people gathered for a candle-lit vigil to demand that the government legislate to close a legal loophole that leaves it unclear when the threat to the life of a pregnant woman provides legal justification for an abortion.
?My reaction was outrage. Shame that this happened in my country,? protester Emer McNally, 33, and six months pregnant, said. ?It?s scary to think that medical treatment was denied.?
The news of Halappanavar?s death overnight sparked a wave of anger on Irish social media, with more than 50,000 people sharing the Irish Times?s lead story on the issue on Wednesday.
The organisers of the Dublin protest said they expected a much larger crowd at a weekend demonstration and called on people to protest at Irish embassies around the world.
Prime Minister Enda Kenny?s Government now faces much criticism and pressure to introduce a legislation to redefine the abortion law. However, the PM refused to make any comment until the investigations into the death are completed.
?What happened to this woman was nothing short of medieval,? independent socialist MP Clare Daly said. ?We can?t let political cowardice kill another woman.?
The Irish Government has maintained that it is waiting for the recommendations of an expert panel, before it goes ahead with the European Court of Human Rights? demand for clarification. The panel?s report was delivered to the Government on Tuesday.
In the absence of legislation, Irish women are forced to leave their country to terminate their pregnancies, an option which Savita obviously did not have given her condition.
?It?s very frightening. It makes me feel it?s not a safe country in which to have a baby,? said Sinead O?Brien a 41-year-old holding a placard saying ?Never Again?.
With a global outrage over the incident and political parties terming it as a violation of human rights, Savita?s parents called for an international probe.
Meanwhile in India, the Delhi Catholic Archdiocese said the mother?s life should not have been risked even though abortion was a complete no for the ?Catholic? country.
Massive protests were also witnessed in New Delhi, with people taking out rallies with placards, shouting slogans against ?the murder? by ?Irish laws?.
While activists protested across Belfast on Thursday night, a day after thousands rallied in London, Dublin, Cork and Galway in memory of Savita, Irish gynecologists also pushed for a proper legislation in this connection, so that they won?t have to fear prosecution if they aborted a foetus to protect a mother?s life. ?We would like to be able to practice medicine in a safe environment legally. The current situation is like a sword of Damocles hanging over us,? Dr Peter Boylan of the Irish Institute of Obstetricians and Gynecologists said Thursday. ?If we do something with a good intention, but it turns out to be illegal, the consequences are extremely serious for medical practitioners.?
However, anti-abortion activists and writers have argued that the case was an aberration from Irish law, not an example of it.

?The Indian Government should take action and I will take it up with the External Affairs Ministry on Monday that the Irish Government eases the strict abortion rules on humanitarian grounds,? NCW chairperson Mamata Sharma said in Shillong.
Ireland had ordered two probes into the incident, one by the hospital itself, while the other was by the Government.
The grief-stricken parents of the 31-year old dentist,. Andaneppa Yalagi and Mahadevi Yalagi, have appealed the Indian Government to push for an amendment of Irish law banning abortions. ?The Irish law on abortion should be amended to prevent incidents such as my daughter?s death from occurring in future,? they said.
?In an attempt to save a 4-month-old foetus they killed my 31-year-old daughter. How is that fair, you tell me?? her mother, A Mahadevi, asked while speaking to the media in India.
Savita?s father said if hospital authorities had heeded to his daughter?s request to terminate the pregnancy she would have survived. He claimed Savita?s kidney and liver was damaged due to inadequate care taken by hospital authorities. Andaneppa said having been told she was miscarrying, and after one day in severe pain, Savita asked for a medical termination. This was refused, he said, because the foetal heartbeat was still present and my relatives were told (by doctors) ?this is a Catholic country?.
Abortion remains an extremely divisive issue in Ireland, an overwhelmingly Roman Catholic country which has some of the world?s most restrictive laws on medical terminations.

However, the earlier constitutional amendment, banning abortion still remains in place, leaving medical professionals to navigate a legal minefield when treating pregnant women.
Admitting that he is aware of the Irish law against abortion, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid on Friday said, ?The issue is very complex. The law is there in the constitution, but how the constitution is interpreted is a matter of concern. A death investigation in Butler County is now being classified as a homicide following the results of an autopsy report.
Someone delivered a terrible blow to the town of Georgiana, and closer to home for those living on Wise Street where Dorothy Leatherwood live. She was a widow, 72-years-old.
A friend found Leatherwood's body Wednesday morning in her bedroom after dropping by to pick her up for their weekly Bible study class.
Family members believe the victim knew the person who killed her because there was no evidence of any forced entry into her home.
Butler County Sheriff Kenny Harden says the investigation is on-going and declined to get into how Leatherwood died or what possible motive there might have been. Investigators have already questioned a 'person of interest'.
Dorothy Leatherwood spent more than 30 years in New York where she worked in the medical field before coming back to Georgiana where she cared for her mom who eventually passed away. Her husband died a year ago.
The death is?Butler County's first of 2012.
A funeral is planned for Tuesday at 11am at Friendship Baptist Church in Georgiana.

Mick Szydlowski receives the cat video of the year award (Friskies)The first-ever cat video awards were held in Los Angeles on Wednesday, with thousands of proud cat owners competing for the coveted grand prize.
"Do cats know about their celebrity today?" asked host and comedian Michael Buckley. "And more importantly, do they care?"
That's debatable. But what's unquestionable is the human enthusiasm for cat videos, which have become the third-most-searched items on YouTube.
More than 1,400 videos were submitted to the Friskies awards this year. A panel of judges and online voters narrowed the selection to 12 finalists in four categories.
And to honor the finalists, Friskies brought out a roster of cat-world celebrities to entertain a live audience both in person and over the Web. The festivities included a professional ballet dancer and violinist performing an ode to the Nyan Cat, an a cappella choir performing all "meow" renditions of classic songs, the creator of the Henri Le Chat Noir videos and Animal Planet's "Must Love Cats" host John Fulton singing acoustic cat songs that included lines such as, "The Internet was made for kittens, the Internet was made for cats and I don't have a problem with that."

But there were plenty of touching moments as well.
Most important, Friskies announced it had donated 250,000 cans of cat food to 25 animal shelters across the country to help celebrate the awards show.
And the winner of the first-ever Friskies award was Mick Szydlowski for his video, "Oskar's First Toys." Oskar is a cat born without eyes, and Mick and his girlfriend, Bethany, captured video of the newborn cat playing with a toy ball.
Szydlowski received a year's supply of cat food and a check for $15,000, which he says will be used to buy toys for Oskar and to help pay for their upcoming move from Omaha, Neb., to Seattle.
"It's an incredible feeling," Szydlowski told Yahoo News. "Cats deserve a show like this. And Oskar deserves some of the winnings, maybe all of the winnings.
"Oskar is completely blind, but he doesn't let that slow him down one bit," Szydlowski said. "He's healthy, he's happy, he does everything a regular cat would do."
Szydlowski says he hopes all the attention his Oskar videos have received will help convince people that cats with disabilities can still make great pets. "A lot of people assume it's a death sentence, which is not the case," he said.
