Greg Whitmer was welcomed as the new head coach for the Barberton High School girls basketball team Wednesday night as school members approved his hiring.
Whitmer began his coaching career in 1978 at Mogadore High School and has since coached at Tallmadge High School, Jackson High School and Twinsburg High School. He also served as the coach for the Tri-County All-star teams.
Whitmer has been a part of nine sectional, four district and two regional championships, and two state final four teams.
?I look forward to get going here and enjoy winning probably as much as you do,? Whitmer said at the meeting. ?That?s the goal.?
Whitmer was an assistant at Twinsburg when the Tigers won Division I state championships in 2011 and 2012 and were state runner-up in 2013.
