Food & Drink Innovation Network ? GRUPO CODORNIU ...

September 2nd, 2011

Grupo Codorn?u is introducing two new wines to join its existing Raimat portfolio of sustainable single varietal wines and blends.

Available now, Castell de Raimat Xarel.lo-Chardonnay 2010 and Castell de Raimat Chardonnay Barrica 2010 hope to increase consumer choice across the Spanish wine category.

The additions also aim to demonstrate Raimat?s commitment to producing quality Spanish wines by combining innovative New World techniques with traditional Spanish methods.

Castell de Raimat Xarel.lo-Chardonnay 2010 is a marriage of the traditional Catalan grape Xarel.lo combined with Raimat?s signature international varietal Chardonnay.

This newly released wine was a winner at the 2011 New Wave Spanish Wine Awards.

Castell de Raimat Chardonnay Barrica 2010 represents Raimat?s fresh approach to oaked Chardonnay ? 60% is barrel-fermented in French and US oak and left on the lees for six months, with regular b?ttonage to increase its complexity, texture and flavour.

The pioneering launch runs parallel to Raimat?s rebrand of its single varietal Vi?as range to ?Castell de Raimat?, which will be rolled out nationally across the entire Raimat portfolio throughout 2011 and 2012 to reflect the brand?s heritage and traditional Spanish roots.

Castell, the Catalan word for castle, honours the 17th Century fort, which has always formed part of the estate and contrasts with Raimat?s modern winemaking facilities.

Mark Nairn, Raimat?s Head Winemaker, said:

?I am delighted to be introducing these two exciting new additions to the Raimat portfolio. D.O Costers del Segre is ideally suited to producing outstanding white wines with great fruit expression, elegance and length.

?These new wines demonstrate this perfectly, as does our 2011 New Wave Spanish Wine Award for the Castell de Raimat Xarel.lo Chardonnay.?

At 2,245 hectares, Raimat is the largest family-owned single vineyard estate in Europe and the only large-scale sustainable wine producer in Spain.

With 100% of its vineyards sustainably certified by the Catalan Council for Integrated Production (CCIP), Raimat believes that sustainable viticultural practices produce the best grapes, and therefore quality wines.

The fact that all of Raimat?s wines are certified as sustainable is communicated on every bottle to ensure both consumers and retailers are aware of its sustainable philosophy at point of purchase.
