Campbell tops batting, Davis tops bowling in Under ... - CNIS Sports

Georgetown, Guyana ? Jamaican opener John Campbell and Trinidad and Tobago?s spinner Derone Davis were the leading performers with bat and ball in the just-concluded West Indies Cricket Board?s Regional Under-19 three-day tournament.
Campbell, the well-built left-hander, made the most runs (326) an average of 81.5 per innings. He had a topscore of 175 in the final round, which set-up Jamaica?s title-clinching win over Windward Islands.

Behind Campbell in the Top 5 was Windwards skipper Kavem Hodge, who made 253 runs with a topscore of 155 not out against Leewards. Next was Akeal Hosein of Trinidad and Tobago (248), Windward Islands keeper Sunil Ambris (247) and Rahkeem Cornwall, the Leewards skipper with 217 runs. Two other batsmen made centuries. Emmanuel Lett of Trinidad and Tobago played two matches and batted three times and his 187 retired hurt against Leewards was the highest overall score. The other ton came from the bat of Barbados skipper Kraigg Brathwaite ? 147 not out against Guyana.

In the bowling, Davis was the most outstanding. The crafty left-arm spinner ended 25 at an average of just 10 runs per wicket. He had two five-wicket hauls the best of 25.1-12-25-7 in Trinidad and Tobago?s win against Guyana. Second behind Davis was another left-arm spinner Larry Edward of the Windward Islands, who took 23 wickets at 15.57 each. He had three five-wicket hauls and best figures of five for 42.

Three bowlers were tied on 16 wickets to round off the Top five. Donovan Nelson, the Jamaica skipper and leg-spinner got his 16 at 14.5 apiece, Barbados off-spinner Chaim Holder got his 16 at 12.56 each, while Barbadian Justin Greaves was the stand-out fast bowler and got his 16 at a mere 9.12 runs per wicket.

The WICB Regional Under-19 tournament now moves on to the 50-over competition which bowls off on Tuesday. Guyana face Trinidad and Tobago at Bourda; Windwards take on Leewards at Demerara Cricket Club and Barbados meet Jamaica at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
